He became involved in his profession because his mother and father were firm believers in education. He and his three brothers had the importance of education instilled in them from a young age. He originally planned to go to medical school, but eventually realized that medicine was not for him. Law seemed to be a better course for him, so he switched his major to political science.

Mr. McCargo spent years working in the health care industry. He has a passion for helping and serving the underserved and the public sector.

He served as chief healthcare compliance officer, vice president of business development and marketing, vice president of plan administration and associate general counsel for The Wellness Plan. He also served as assistant superintendent for the Highland Park Public Schools. He was a senior shareholder at Kirk McCargo, P.C. in Detroit, Mich. for more than 12 years. Mr. McCargo has also served as a labor, employment and commercial arbitrator and mediator since 1980. He has served the State Bar of Michigan in various capacities, including a four-year term as commissioner. He served as a state hearing officer in the Michigan Departments of Public Health and Civil Service.
