Mr. Mercer believes the most gratifying aspect of his career was seeing patients stay out of inpatient facilities, because of the extensive discharge planning that he, in part, coordinated. Another achievement has been to be part of the senior leadership team.

Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
He became involved in his profession because he found mental health interesting, and he derives satisfaction from seeing clients achieve their potential and have a better quality of life.
Extended Bio Profile:
Mr. Mercer has been a social worker and counselor for the past 30 years of his professional career. During the last 26 years, his work has been focused on the treatment and recovery of patients who are severely mentally ill at Twin Valley Behavioral Health Care. Mr. Mercer always felt gratified when patients were stabilized, leading to their return to the community. From a social work perspective, he has learned that the most intensive discharge planning involving collaboration of all parties (such as the patient, their family, the hospital treatment team, outpatient providers, etc.) provides the best chance for patients to maintain their stability when living in the community.
